Get your free estimateViking Hinge & Roller Replacement: The Jacksonville Owner’s Guide
Viking hinge and roller replacement in Jacksonville typically runs $85 to $220 per hinge assembly installed, with most single-gate repairs completed in under two hours. We stock Viking-compatible hinges and rollers on the truck, so a technician can usually swap the failed part on the first visit, not schedule a second trip after ordering. Most homeowners discover the problem the same way: the gate starts dragging, squealing, or sagging about an inch below where it used to sit, and suddenly the motor sounds like it’s working twice as hard to move the same leaf.

What you’re hearing is metal on metal. Viking swing and slide gates ride on hinge pins and rollers that carry the full weight of the gate leaf every time it opens. When a roller bearing wears out or a hinge pin bends, the gate fights the operator instead of gliding. Left alone for a few weeks, that drag burns out motor capacitors and strips drive gears. The hinge replacement is a $200 fix. The motor repair you’re heading toward is $600 plus. That’s the math that matters.
One thing to know up front: Carver Gate Repair Jacksonville is an independent gate service company. We’re not affiliated with Viking, but we work on their equipment daily and we stock the replacement parts their gates need.
Which Viking Models This Applies To
Viking has used a few different hinge and roller configurations over the years, and they’re not interchangeable. The model number is usually stamped on the operator control board or printed on a label inside the control box, and that’s the first thing we ask for. Viking’s L-series and G-series slide gates use a top guide roller and a bottom track roller, while their swing gate models use a fixed bottom hinge and an adjustable top hinge. The roller diameter matters more than people expect: most Viking slide rollers are 2-inch or 3-inch, and putting a 2-inch roller on a gate built for a 3-inch track leaves slop that accelerates wear.
For hinges, the critical measurement is the pin diameter. Viking swing gates commonly use 5/8-inch or 3/4-inch hinge pins, and the difference is enough that the wrong size binds immediately. There’s also a compatibility gotcha with older Viking gates built before 2010: some used a proprietary hinge bolt pattern that a generic aftermarket hinge won’t match without drilling new holes. We carry both the OEM-spec Viking hinge and a machine-shop quality aftermarket version when the gate is out of production and original parts aren’t available. The aftermarket route only makes sense when the OEM part is discontinued. On a current-production Viking, we use the genuine part every time.

Signs Your Viking Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing
- The gate sags at the free end. When the bottom hinge or roller wears, the free end of the gate drops. You’ll see daylight under the latch side that wasn’t there before, and the gate will catch on its drop rod or the ground at the far end of travel. The cause is almost always a wallowed-out hinge pin hole or a collapsed roller bearing.
- A squeal or metallic grind while the gate moves. Roller bearings are sealed, but Jacksonville humidity eventually defeats the seals and rust gets in. Once a bearing runs dry, the roller stops rolling and starts sliding, which produces a high-pitched squeal that often gets blamed on the motor. It’s the roller.
- Visible wear marks or flat spots on the track rollers. Get down at track level and look at the bottom rollers. If they have a flat section instead of a round profile, the roller seized at some point and the gate has been dragging it across the track. Flat-spotted rollers need replacement, not adjustment.
- The operating gate is noticeably slower in one direction. A bent hinge pin or a worn roller creates asymmetric resistance. The operator pushes fine on the way out and labors on the way back, or vice versa. That uneven load is what burns out operator capacitors over time.
- You can lift the gate by hand and feel play in the hinge. With the operator disengaged, grab the gate leaf and lift up. If there is upward movement, the hinge pin has worn or the hinge plate has loosened. Any play in a Viking hinge puts impact load on the operator every time the gate starts and stops.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Jacksonville, Viking hinge replacement runs $85 to $220 per hinge installed, including the part. Roller replacement runs $60 to $140 per roller. The range is driven by the specific Viking model, whether the hinge needs to be match-drilled for an older bolt pattern, and how much of the gate has to be unweighted to get the old hinge out safely. Most single-leaf repairs land in the $150 to $350 range when one hinge and one roller are involved. A double swing gate with four failing hinges could run $600 to $800.
Every price is quoted in writing before we touch the gate. That’s the Carver Gate Repair way, and it comes out of The Garrison Standard we’ve been held to since 2008. You’ll know the exact number while the technician is standing in your driveway, before any work starts. That number does not change if the job takes longer than expected or if we find the gate needs an extra shim. What’s included: the Viking-compatible part, the labor to install and align it, a three-cycle test of the gate after the repair, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the hinge or roller fails within a year, the second visit is free. No argument, no re-quote.
DIY or Call Us?
Hinges and rollers on a Viking gate are a place where DIY goes wrong in expensive ways, and I’ll say it plainly: a gate leaf is heavy. Even a lightweight aluminum drive gate can weigh 300 to 600 pounds, and lifting or shifting that weight while loosening a hinge calls for a jack, a brace, and a second set of hands. If a hinge lets go while the gate is unweighted, it’s a crush injury or worse. We don’t recommend it.
What you can safely do yourself is diagnostics. Look at the rollers for flat spots. Lift the gate to check hinge play. Note which way the gate drags. Take a couple of photos of the hinge and the model label. That information helps our tech come loaded with the right part on the first trip. Then call (904) 490-8559 and let a uniformed, background-checked technician do the lift-and-fit work. It takes us under two hours, and you’ll get a written price before the first bolt comes out.
FAQs
In Jacksonville’s humidity and salt air, Viking hinges typically last 7 to 10 years and rollers last 5 to 8 years. Coastal properties near the Intracoastal lose a couple of years to salt corrosion. If your gate is older than that and showing wear signs, a proactive replacement now is much cheaper than waiting for a bind that takes the operator out too. Call (904) 490-8559 and we’ll assess it.
If the wear is isolated to the pin, sometimes yes: we can install an oversized pin and re-bush the hinge. If the hinge plate itself is wallowed out or cracked, repair is not worth doing because the cost of machining plus labor approaches the cost of a new Viking hinge. Call (904) 490-8559 and we’ll tell you honestly which side of that line your gate is on.
Most single-leaf hinge and roller replacements take 90 minutes to two hours on site. That includes unweighting the gate, removing the old parts, installing and aligning the new hardware, and running the gate through three full cycles to confirm it tracks clean before we close out the job.
We stock Viking-compatible hinges and rollers for current-production models on our service vehicles, along with common parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls gates. For discontinued Viking models with the pre-2010 bolt pattern, we source the part quickly from our supplier network, and we’ll quote you a firm price before ordering. In most Jacksonville repair calls, the part is on the truck on day one.
If your Viking gate is dragging, grinding, or sagging, call (904) 490-8559. A real person answers, 24 hours a day, and the estimate is free. We serve Jacksonville from Mandarin to the Southside and everywhere in between. You’ll get a written price, a background-checked technician, and a one-year written guarantee on the repair. If the gate doesn’t cycle right, the job isn’t done.
