A Ghost Controls keypad or intercom repair in Jacksonville typically runs $145 to $310 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad module, the intercom board, or both. Most jobs are done the same day we arrive, because we stock common Ghost Controls parts on the truck. The usual story starts the same way: the keypad stops accepting the code, or the intercom speaker goes quiet, or the whole unit works on the repeater but not at the gate itself.

Humidity and lightning are the two biggest killers of gate electronics in Jacksonville, and Ghost Controls keypads are not exempt. We see corroded ribbon cables, fried boards after afternoon storms near San Pablo, and keypads that quit gradually over a few weeks as moisture works into the housing. If your Ghost Controls keypad is flaking out, the fix is usually straightforward and the part is genuinely replaceable.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
Ghost Controls makes two gate automation lines that dominate the Jacksonville market: the original GHOST series (AXDP, AX1S, AX2D) and the current Ghost Controls PRO series (GCP1, GCP2, GCP3). Keypad compatibility is not universal across those lines. The AXDP uses a 12V three-wire keypad input, while the PRO series switched to a four-wire configuration for the optional external keypad and intercom integration. Grabbing a generic universal keypad and hoping it works is the most common waste of sixty dollars we see.
The identifying label is on the control board under the cover. Before calling, look for the model number printed on the board itself, not just the motor housing. If you can’t read it, our techs can match it from the connector count and wire colors. For OEM versus aftermarket: Ghost Controls OEM keypads are well-built for the price, but the aftermarket units we use from Northwest Gate Supply hold up just as well in Florida humidity and cost about 20% less. We install both and will tell you which one makes sense for your board revision.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Keypad Is Failing
- Code works sometimes but not others. This is almost always a corroded contact inside the keypad membrane, not a brain problem. Jacksonville’s humidity gets under the membrane faster than Ghost Controls intended.
- Intercom audio is one-way. You can hear the visitor, but they cannot hear you. That points to a failed speaker driver on the intercom board, which is a board-level repair we handle in roughly an hour.
- Keypad lights up but gate does not move. The keypad is sending something, but the board is not listening. This can be the keypad output stage or a dead relay on the control board. We bench-test both before quoting anything.
- Numbers double-register or stick. A worn membrane under the buttons, common after three or four Florida summers in direct sun. Replacing the membrane alone is a $75 to $110 fix if the board is still clean.
- Unit is completely dead after a storm. Lightning traveled the low-voltage wire from the keypad back to the board. We see this a lot in Mandarin and Riverside, where above-ground wire runs are the norm. Not always repairable, but usually diagnosable in ten minutes.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Installed Ghost Controls keypad or intercom replacement in Jacksonville ranges from $145 to $310. The spread depends on a few things: whether it’s a keypad-only swap, an intercom board replacement, or both; OEM versus the quality aftermarket we stock; and whether the wire run from the keypad to the control board needs to be replaced due to weather damage. Most single-part jobs land between $165 and $220.
Every quote is written and agreed before any work starts. That price includes the part, the labor, the programming, and a full cycle test. We also walk you through setting a new code on the spot, because no homeowner should have to fight a manual in the dark. And like every repair Carver Gate Repair does, it’s covered by our written guarantee for a full year.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check two things yourself: make sure the keypad is actually getting power, and make sure the gate operator itself is working from the main control button. If the main button moves the gate and the keypad does not, the problem is isolated to the keypad circuit and the fix is a part replacement you want done right.
What you should not do is open the keypad housing with the system live, especially after rain. Low-voltage wiring is not dangerous on its own, but the control board is. A short across the wrong two pins can take out the board that powers your whole gate operator, and that is a much bigger bill than a keypad swap. If you are unsure, call (904) 490-8559 and we will talk through it before sending anyone out.
FAQs
Most Ghost Controls keypads in Jacksonville last four to seven years before the membrane or board gives out, with direct-sun exposure shaving about a year off that average. Coastal salt air near Atlantic Beach can accelerate corrosion further. If yours is older than five years and failing, replacing the part usually makes more sense than repairing it.
Call (904) 490-8559 and we can match your exact model to what we stock, typically same day.
Sometimes, but only for certain failures. A corroded contact or a split-wire connection is a genuine repair, and we will do that if the board is clean. A dead intercom speaker driver or a lightning-damaged board is a replacement. We don’t patch boards, because patched boards fail again inside a season, and that’s not work we’re willing to guarantee.
Call (904) 490-8559 and we’ll tell you over the phone which category your keypad lands in.
A keypad or intercom replacement on a Ghost Controls gate takes 45 to 90 minutes from the time we start, including programming and testing. If the wire run is damaged, add time for that. We schedule a two-hour window for most parts jobs so we’re not rushing a diagnosis.
Yes. We keep the most common Ghost Controls keypad and intercom replacements on the truck for Jacksonville service calls, along with wiring and connectors. If your system needs something we do not carry, we can usually have the exact part in one to two business days. We also stock compatible parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing systems, so if your keypad trouble turns out to be a board problem on a different brand, we still finish the job in one visit.
Lonnie Burke says it straight: if the gate doesn’t cycle right, the job isn’t done. That standard applies to every keypad we install. Call us at (904) 490-8559 for a free estimate, and we will give you a written price before any work starts.
